The braided reinforcement layer-available in polyester (standard), aramid (high-strength/high-temperature), or copper-plated steel wire (maximum pressure)-absorbs internal pressure loads while the copper-plated steel variant simultaneously provides electromagnetic interference shielding for sensitive avionics and communication equipment.
The outer stainless steel or polyester braid adds burst pressure safety margin (3:1 safety ratio) and protects the underlying layers from FOD (foreign object damage), abrasion, and UV degradation during extended field service.
